Choosing Your Business Category

Selecting the right business category helps search engines show your business for relevant searches.
Why Categories Matter
Your business category informs search engines about:
- The type of business you are
- Relevant searches for your business
- How to display your information
- What details to show customers
Available Categories
Choose the option that best describes your business:
Steps
1. Go to SEO Settings
Navigate to Services → SEO Settings tab.
2. Open Business Information
Click on the Business Information sub-tab.
3. Find Business Type
Scroll to the Business Type dropdown menu.
4. Select Your Category
Choose the category that best matches your business.
5. Save Your Changes
Click Save Changes to apply.
What Changes Based on Category?
Different categories offer different options:
For Local Businesses:
- Price range ($ to $$$$)
- Payment methods accepted
- Opening hours
- Service areas
For Software/Apps:
- Application category
- Supported platforms
- Version information
Tips for Choosing
Be specific:
If you're a beauty salon, choose "Beauty Salon" instead of "Local Business".
Match your Google listing:
Use the same category as your Google Business Profile for consistency.
Think like a customer:
Consider what someone would search for to find your services.
Service Areas
For local businesses, you can also add service areas:
- Go to the Service Areas section in Business Information.
- Add cities or regions where you operate.
- Each area can have its own page on your site.
Example service areas:
- Manchester
- North London
- Surrey
- Birmingham
Updating Your Category
You can change your category anytime:
- Go to Services → SEO Settings tab → Business Information sub-tab.
- Select a new category.
- Click Save Changes.
Changes take effect immediately, but search engines may take time to update their results.
